The end of Senkan Musashi

Here we have a very interesting photo sequence of the US Navy attack on the Japanese fleet in the Sibuyan Sea on October 24, 1944, one of the chapters of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle in history. As a result of this attack, battleship Musashi (Yamato's sister ship) was sunk.

The whole sequence (except for the last photograph which comes from the JMSDF archive at Kure, Japan) was buried deep in an unrelated box at the National Archives Still Picture Branch in College Park, MD.

The so-called "Northern Force", a part of Vice Admiral Kurita's Fifth Fleet, was composed of:

FORCE A

Battleships: Yamato, Musashi, Nagato
Heavy cruisers: Atago, Takao, Chokai, Maya, Myoko, Haguro
Light cruiser: Noshiro
