Taking a taxi (UK)


UK--London--Waterloo Station. Toshimi Takatori has just arrived by 'Eurostar' train from Paris. He wants to take a taxi to his hotel.

Takatori:  Taxi!

Taxi Driver:  'Afternoon guv'nor--Where to then?

Takatori:  The Euston Plaza Hotel please.

Taxi Driver:  OK guv. Traffic's a bit busy today--it might take a while.

Takatori:   That's all right. I understand.

(Taxi moves off)

Taxi Driver:  'Ere--you from Hong Kong then?

Takatori:  No, I'm from Japan. Kobe--in West Japan. Do you know it?

Taxi Driver:  Naah. Never been further than Calais--and that was a day trip!

Takatori:  I've just come from France--through the Channel Tunnel on the EuroStar.

Taxi Driver:  Yeah? Tell you what--I had that Ai Sugiyama in the back of the car once. Nice girl she was--charming.

Takatori:  Do you mean the tennis player?

Taxi Driver:  Yeah! That's right! Lovely girl she was. Shame about her tennis game though...

Taxi Driver:  Well, 'ere we are guv. The Euston Plaza. That's £9.35.

Takatori:  Here you are. (gives him a £10 note)

Taxi Driver:  'Ere! What about a tip then?

Takatori:  Oh sorry -- here's another pound.

Taxi Driver:  Bless you guv. Mind the step now.
